Welcome to the Carl Rostad Family website. It offers nothing for sale and has no advertisers. Although all offers are considered. The site is a gift from my daughter, Caroline, and her husband, Jonathan, who heard me comment that I wished there was a way I could share photographs and stories with people.

Everyone is mad about Facebook, of course, and I suppose I could post photos and tell my stories in that much simpler and cheaper way, But Facebook is an ill-fit for me. Facebook is "social networking," which implies a certain back-and-forth; an exchange of information and mutual conversation. I have always tried to live a life of modest expectations. "Keep the bar low so it's easy to stumble over" - That's my motto. On Facebook people might send a message to which they expect a reply. I don't need that kind of pressure. And it has some sort of poking feature. I am well beyond the days when I would want to be "poked". I'm into a "leave me the hell alone" phase.

The whole family will add to the store of history and photographs. And so that we do not engage in that awkward literary exercise of referring to ourselves in the third person, the contributions will always be signed. We hope you enjoy Caroline and Jonathan's gift to her Dad, who always wants to share Montana with the people he meets and has finally found a way to do it.
